NEW YORK – A woman was brutally attacked by her husband wielding a meat cleaver in Chinatown New York on Sunday.

The man dragged his wife through the street in broad daylight and in plain view her began chopping in his wife with the cleaver. He first struck her in the head.

Firefighters from the FDNY company known as the ‘Chinatown Dragon Fighters’ saw the man attacking the woman across the street from their station house on Canal Street and quickly jumped to action to stop the attack.

The managed to subdue the attacker but not until he had dealt his wife an additional 6 to 8 blows with the cleaver.

The man was arrested and has been charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of a deadly weapon.

The frightened and badly injured woman got up from the sidewalk and rushed, covered in blood into a restaurant.

Moments later she reappeared and took off running. A fireman pursued her, caught up with her and despite the language barrier managed to convince the victim he was there to help her.

The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital were she remains in critical condition.
